3-Day Hands-on GLOBE Workshop

What: 3-Day Hands-on GLOBE Workshop—participants receive training & instruments for classroom
When: July 15, 16, & 17, 2008
Time: 8:30 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.

The North Central Region Math/Science Education Collaborative will conduct a three-day hands-on training conference for Global Learning & Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) July 15, 16, and 17 at Clarion University, Clarion, PA.  Participants will meet in Carlson Library-Room 201.  This workshop is for teachers who are interested in GLOBE and would like to become a GLOBE teacher and for teachers who are already GLOBE teachers and would like to learn to enter data, learn additional GLOBE activities and explore the GLOBE website resources in depth.

Anticipated GLOBE activities will include:

  • Atmosphere Chapter - Protocols include:  Instrument Shelter/ study site selection using GPS, Placement of shelter, Digital Multi-Day Max/Min /Current Air and Soil Temperature , Clouds & Contrails, Relative Humidity                   
  • Soil Chapter:  Soil Characterization includes: Horizon sampling, colors particle shape/size, fertility.
  • Introduction to GIS:  Using GIS in GLOBE
In addition to the power points/lecture and hands-on outdoor activities we will spend some time practicing data entry and exploring the GLOBE website resources.  This GLOBE training workshop will hold places for 22 participants.  Therefore, if you want to attend but must wait for approval from your administrator we suggest you call or email to have a spot reserved for you.  For additional information or questions please contact North Central Region Math/Science Education Collaborative at 814-393-1612 or email:  mathsci@clarion.edu

If you are attending from a distance and need to stay overnight, arrangements have been made with Comfort Inn Clarion for a rate of $40.00 per night/room.  The rooms will have 2 queen  beds. The motel has a swimming pool and hot tub. IF YOU PLAN TO STAY AND NEED A ROOM PLEASE HAVE YOUR RESERVATION IN THE COLLABORATIVE OFFICE BY JUNE 23, 2008.
